It was first mentioned in 1335 as a Hungarian military fortification, although the exact time of construction is not known, as well as who built it. Byzantines needed fortress to determine the borders in the north, the Hungarians to secure their possessions across the Danube, and the Serbs - because it protected their area from Hungarian intrusion ... Due to the extremely favorable geostrategic position it had been the target of many invaders and the scene of many conflicts for many centuries.

- Continuing journey towards Đerdap hydroelectric power plant through “Iron Gate” and a tour of one of the largest hydropower plants in Europe

- If you are interested in the history - tour of the Roman fortification Diana from the first century - The fort was built at the end of the first century, during the reign of Emperor Trajan, following his preparation for the conquest of Dacia (the Dacian Wars). In addition to the fortress are guarded canals which enable navigation on the Danube, because canals avoided cataracts. Its first restoration emerged in the third century and in the early fourth century fortress got two new walls that went down to Danube. During Goths penetration to the Balkans partially burned Diana on 378, after which it was restored as one of the protective imperial fortresses on the Danube protecting from the intrusion of barbarians. But on 443 the Huns again destroyed Diana. As part of the great restoration of Roman Empire and during the reign of Justinian, Diana was restored in the early sixth century. Final collapse of the fortress occurred on the 596 after the Slavic invasion of the Balkan Peninsula.

Day two

- Breakfast.

In the gorge of the River Vratna there are three natural stone bridges, two in the vicinity of the monastery and a third, more distant, deeper at river gorge. To reach it, you must follow marked path, which was previously passing through the monastery yard and which now goes around the monastery estate and to the river to arrive at the “Small Bridge”. “Small Bridge” is about 200 m upstream from the monastery and its length is 15m. The width of its mouth is 33m height is 34m, while the thickness of the arch above the center is 10 m.

- Arrival at the village of Rajac (Paradise Mountain) and visits to wine cellars and wine tasting. - The first records of Rajačke pimnice (name of the cellars) comes from the mid-nineteenth century when it referred as “a village without a chimney”. At the time of the vintage at the end of the nineteenth

and first half of the twentieth century village had a greater significance. Pimnice are located 2 km from the same village on the hill next to Timok River. They were built next to each other, interspersed with narrow streets. There are around 260 Pimnice. Center is a spacious square (Parliament) which was built back in the 1936, in addition to which there is a mulberry tree. This holly tree, every year for St. Trifon, is used for religious ceremonies and cutting the “slava” (Serbian orthodox custom) cake. According to tradition, this tree was planted by drummer of Haiduk Veljko. Pimnice are built of stone with thick walls and up to 80 cm.

Covered with hollow tiles are basements that are partially dug into the ground. Poorer households had only the cellars for storing wine, while richer ones had rooms above the cellar in which people lived during vintage.
