Beograd – Novo Hopovo – Novi Sad – Petrovardin – Sremski Karlovci – Beograd

 Scheduled for  - 22.11.2015.

1 day /  no overnight / by bus

Program for departures from Belgrade

Levaing towards Novi Sad from Lasta bus station. Travelling across Fruška Gora mountain and making a stop to visit Novo Hopovo monastery, which keeps an ancient Christian relic – 1700 year old remains of holy warrior, Saint Theodore of Amasea.

A tour of Petrovaradin fortress, one of the three largest forts in Europe (alongside Verdun and Belgrade). It was build by the Habsburg monarchy, in an attempt to protect its southern borders from the Ottoman empire. In the fort’s underground, there’s a labyrinth consisting of 16 kilometers of corridors, secret passageways, crossroads and halls, in which nobody dares to venture without a guide. We will hear a story about the fort’s secrets, underground mine fields, deadly traps…

A walk through the centre of Novi Sad and free time for lunch (or optional lunch on the fortress itself).

A tour of wine cellars in Karlovci and tasting of famous Karlovac wine called Bermet – a traditional aromatic wine made in Karlovci, which was once a wine of choice in Vienna royal palace. Several bottles of Bermet were found even in the wreckage of the Titanic. Sremski Karlovci is one of the most beautiful little towns in Serbia, on the slopes of the mystic Fruška Gora mountain.

A visit to the patriarchy’s church, in which lies a most unusual fresco – depicting Moses with demon-like horns.

Return to Belgrade.
